Why would we rationally adopt a fight or flight response to supposed truths or beliefs inherited from forebears when it is our own mind challenging the supposed truths in response to contact with new information or knowledge? How is fighting with or flighting from our own mind rational? Should it not be more rational to double down on integration of new knowledge into existing knowledge, integration that may require discard of prior knowledge. The goal is not necessarily to figure it all out but to make some sense of new knowledge acquired.
