The essence of Life is, Consciousness, or better yet, Awareness, not Existence. In stated respect, if truly rocks are inanimate, whereas they, rocks exist, they lack Consciousness, or better yet, Awareness.

The dichotomy that subsists between Consciousness and Awareness has enunciation as follows. Whether or not you and I believe in the story of Adam and Eve as the beginning of life on earth, the assertion that the two tatonned from consciousness of their existence to the awareness that they were ‘naked’ demonstrates the superior robustness of the word, awareness to consciousness, as a description of the essence of life. In similar vein, the centrality of awareness to the meaningfulness of consciousness is evident in the realization that Alzheimer consists, not in a loss of consciousness, but rather in a loss of awareness.

Life has meaning only when it is suffused with awareness.

If Life, in of itself, connotes awareness, clearly the notion that, ideally we become progressively more aware is vacuous. In presence of the reality that we do indeed progress in our awareness’ — e.g. we progressed from, ‘the earth is flat’ to, ‘the earth is round’; and from, ‘the sun revolves around the earth’ to, ‘the earth revolves around the sun’ — in so far as mankind is concerned, Life precedes Awareness.
