People talk about the Bible colloquially as the “Word of God” because it purportedly contains God’s words to man. It is true, however, that not everything in the Bible is spoken by God. Some of the stuff is spoken by men or women — ordinary persons like you and I.
In my opinion, spiritual maturity enables discernment of what is contextual to a time and what is eternal in so far as contents of the Bible are concerned. Interpretation of words spoken by men or women within context of words spoken by God Himself helps place things in perspective.
Frankly, I do not know how anyone can regard the Bible as a good book if they question the words attributed to God as exactly what they claim to be — Words spoken by God to men.
How exactly I ask can people lying about their experiences write a good book? How can liars teach us the truth about God? Either the book is good, meaning it reflects truly words spoken by God or it is a deception written by men whose consciences are seared.
How do I know the Bible is a good book?
If you read the Books of Numbers, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy (Old Testament) and can stand some of the ceremonial and repetitive stuff, you find principles that when you think about their beauty only could have come from a God whose essence is Love. Human minds could not have created such principles. Only a God who is Love could. In the illustrations of mercy, justice, righteousness embedded in each principle, there is evidence of a God who understands how best to manage interactions between people for harmonious coexistence.
If our societies today would function on those principles — not the details and minutiae of that time, the principles — Presidents of each country probably would spend most of their time playing golf because there would be very little to worry about. We would have essentially utopia.

People truly searching for truth never close their minds to new previously unconsidered evidence. They realize their search for truth is progressive. What once was not considered or known can become springboard to new choices, decisions, or actions.
Personally, I have acquired more peace and joy and serenity of faith in life as I have acquired better understanding of the Bible, Jesus Christ, God The Father, and the scientific, historical, and archaeological evidence for truthfulness of the Bible. Openness to new knowledge is the only path to truth and lasting peace of mind.
