No war ever is won without people wise enough not to be reckless, yet angry enough to want to take it to the enemy. Without such people, all of the everyday joes dragged into war typically lack the bravery required for winning wars.
The guy who restrains from owning a gun in everyday life may be the guy the nation needs to hand the first gun when the chips are down and war is inevitable.
War never is a good thing in sense of alternative, less destructive solutions. Whenever it is the only path to peace, however, war must be celebrated not denigrated. The war in Iraq we realize ex post was not a necessary war; no one can say, however, that American involvement in the Second World War was a mistake. We must remember though that the soldier who goes to fight does not have opportunity for luxury of philosophizing over war, as such regardless of views of necessity of war must be celebrated.
