If marriage is a social construct, it must have an origin date. No such date exists in any ancient manuscripts, meaning marriage always has existed. If there does not exist any origin date, it cannot credibly be argued to be a social construct. A divine institution fits the facts more credibly than a social construct.
Personality is not the same as a moral code. Personality is behavioral quirks, not morality.
But seriously, you would argue that the people having babies in today’s world can beyond reasonable doubt be regarded to be the most desirable for such an activity? Listening to the 7.00 pm newscast everyday for an entire year is sufficient for debunking of any such notion. Did not some parents just lock their children in their home for years? How many teens run away from home every year for just or emotional reasons in the United States? The current generation of teenagers is considered the most suicidal ever. Does the evidence support improvements in circumstances of children even in the United States?
In the midst of this debacle, adults want to hold on to sexual promiscuity, even if self restraint will help heal their very own children, help save marriages, help give children stability?
Part of the reality of today’s world is women increasingly are choosing men on basis of physique, charm, and sex appeal, hence creation of the term ‘nerd’ for the brilliant, non-charming, non-sexually appealing guy in High School. If women are choosing by physique, charm, and sex appeal, we really are creating the best babies possible?
I am not saying people cannot have multiple sexual partners. Nor am I attempting to mandate anyone else’s choices in context of sexual morality.
But fact is fact. Whenever a society becomes characterized by absence of sexual restraint, it dissolves into moral decadence of a more costly nature — oppression, racism, lack of regard for others etc. This the case because lack of restraint in one area of life easily translates into other areas of life. This was an important rationale for fall of the Medes and Persians and Romans, two of the three most recent ancient civilizations or empires.
Assassination of Julius Caesar was predicated on the notion he wanted to impose more discipline on the Senators (restraint with respect to sex and abuse of others), some of whom of course at the end of the day ended up courting Cleopatra for help. And what exactly did Cleopatra and Anthony demand again? And what did all of the Senators end up with at the end of the day? Generals as Emperors. Sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
No empire stays strong and ahead if it devolves into lack of self restraint in context of human interactions.
