I totally agree with you that education as a concept has been abused. In the United States it has been utilized at times and in different locations as a means for repression of blacks. But if we focus on its misuse as opposed to trying to use it right for achievement of self actualization, we compound the problem.
When an educated black or white man willingly wants to help young black boys or men and goes to teach in a “problem school” do blacks in that school appreciate and respond or do they put up a veneer of “we do not need the white man’s education because we have our own mostly illicit commodities economy or we will get sports scholarships anyway?” Have we tried to relocate young black boys who are working hard yet failing to better contexts to provide them with the best chances for success? Even for whites education is not perfect.
My thoughts are let us make the most of the positives of education and attempt to counteract it’s misuse with our actions. We cannot achieve this however if young blacks disdain education because they see it as an avenue to more slavery to the white man. If most of the wealth in the country already lies in the hands of white folk the reality is for most blacks getting along with white folks is unavoidable for wealth acquisition. Let’s be pragmatic not reactive not because we should not be angry but because anger will not move us forward.
As to refinement and culture, education helps enhance our capacity to listen, respond to communication as opposed to reacting to the communicator, not consider violence a means of communication, and understand why others disagree with us. These capacities I think lie at the root of true refinement and culture and are not the property of the white man.
